We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Physician Assistant to join our healthcare team in surgical oncology at Legacy health. The PA will work collaboratively with healthcare professionals in a team-oriented approach across 2, and potentially 3, hospital sites (Meridian Park, Mount Hood, Good Samaritan) to provide high-quality care for patients with breast and skin cancer.
The successful candidate will have privileges to Legacy Meridian Park, Good Samaritan, Mt Hood and Salmon Creek Hospitals. This position is intended to enhance the surgical oncology program primarily at Meridian Park Hospital where clinic and surgery will occur 2 days of the week. One surgical assist day per week will likely occur at Mt Hood Hospitals. In addition to surgery time, there will be two days in clinic.
The successful candidate will have a strong clinical background, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage patient care autonomously. A period of orientation, learning and introduction to the practice, its providers, and clinical locations is incorporated into the on-boarding phase.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct physical exams, obtain medical histories, and interpret breast imaging, nuclear medicine and pathology results.
- Diagnose and treat benign and malignant breast and skin diseases.
- Develop and implement patient treatment plans.
- Prescribe medications and therapies within the scope of practice.
- Assist in surgical procedures alongside 3 surgeons across 2 hospital sites (Meridian Park Hospital and Mt Hood hospital).
- The successful applicant will be assisting in the operating room on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday across two hospital sites. Additional travelling may be required depending on the attending surgeons’ operating room schedule. Dedicated clinic time is reserved for Monday and Fridays at Meridian Park hospital. There is flexibility with the schedule as the role evolves.
- Provide patient education on disease prevention, health maintenance, and treatment options.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.
- Participate in weekly tumor board conferences.
- Document patient encounters in electronic medical records (EMR) accurately and in a timely manner.
- Perform routine procedures such as suturing, seroma aspirations, steroid injections, drain placements and wound care in addition to surgical assist responsibilities in Oregon.
- Open to additional training in cancer genetics and certification through the American Society of Breast Surgeons.
