We seek a skilled and dedicated Surgical Foot and Ankle Physician Assistant to join our dynamic team. This position involves a mix of inpatient care, assisting in surgical procedures, and outpatient clinic responsibilities. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with a supervising foot and ankle surgeon to provide exceptional patient care, ensure efficient workflow, and contribute to the practice's overall success.

Responsibilities

  1. Outpatient Clinic:
  • Evaluate and manage patients in the clinic setting, including pre and post-operative visits.
  • Perform minor procedures such as joint injections, wound care, casting, and suture/staple removal.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, surgical procedures, and recovery expectations.
  • Collaborate with the care team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  1. Surgical Assistance:
  • Serve as the first assist in foot and ankle orthopedic surgeries, including preoperative preparation and postoperative management.
  • Ensure proper surgical instruments and equipment are available during procedures.
  • Suture, close incisions, and apply dressings under surgeon supervision
  1. Inpatient Care:
  • Perform hospital rounds to monitor and manage postoperative and inpatient surgical patients.
  • Conduct initial patient assessments, including history and physical exams, under the direction of the supervising surgeon.
  • Order, review, and interpret diagnostic tests and imaging.
  • Participate in care coordination and discharge planning.
  • Respond to inpatient consultations for foot and ankle surgical cases.
  1. Administrative and Team Responsibilities:
  • Document patient encounters thoroughly in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Participate in case reviews and clinical team meetings.
  • Provide mentorship and training to residents as applicable.

Qualifications

 

Education and Licensure:

  • Requires Bachelor’s degree and successful completion of a physician assistant program accredited by any of the following accrediting bodies:
    • Committee on Allied Health, Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association (CAHEA).
    • Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
    • Accreditation Review Commission on the Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
  • Current Oregon State PA license.

Experience:

  • Recommended 1-2 years of experience in surgical subspecialties such as orthopedic, trauma, vascular, or general surgery. (New graduates and experienced candidates with relevant orthopedic clinical rotations may be considered.)
  • Surgical assisting experience required.
  • Knowledge of acute and chronic disease states, administration and prescription of medications, and delivering physical care following a treatment plan.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficiency in examination, diagnosis, and management.
  • Skilled in assisting with surgical procedures and performing minor in-office procedures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.

Other Requirements:

  • Current ACLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and limited weekends as needed.
