Legacy Emanuel Medical Center is an ACS verified, Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma center that admits around 2700 trauma patients a year. The Trauma APP will be joining a group of 8 surgeons and 12 APPs. They will be involved in Trauma and Acute Care Surgery evaluations and resuscitations, daily rounding on the floor, critical care, and surgical assisting when needed. Additionally, there are abundant opportunities for teaching, research, and outreach. This position includes working some nights and weekends, but no call is required. The ideal candidate is self-motived, able to easily multitask, and works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary approach.

 

Under the direction of the Physician Assistant’s Supervising Physician or Designated Agent and one’s collaborative practice agreement, provides medical and surgical services. Makes responsible decisions within the scope of practice as a dependent medical practitioner.  Works in concert with physician(s) to ensure the highest quality of care for one’s patients. Physicians may delegate to the Lead Physician Assistant those medical duties that are within the PA’s training and are allowed by law. Specific practice activities may differ from PA to PA in accordance with their level of training, experience, and the preferences of the overseeing physician. Likewise, there may be hospital-specific differences in the PA scope of practice at different locations.

This position is located in the LMG Trauma Department at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: 

  • Requires bachelor’s degree and successful completion of a physician assistant program accredited by any of the following accrediting bodies:
    1. Committee on Allied Health, Education Accreditation of the American Medical
    2. Association (CAHEA). Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
    3. Accreditation Review Commission on the Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).

Experience:   

  • Requires experience in direct patient management within the surgical subspecialty of Trauma and Acute Care.
  • Surgical assisting experience required.
  • Knowledge of acute and chronic disease states, administration, and prescription of medications, and delivering physical care following treatment plan.
  • Prior operating room and leadership experience strongly preferred.

 

Licensure/Certification: 

  • Current applicable state licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant or ability to obtain licensure upon date of hire.
  • Current DEA, ATLS certifications.
  • Strongly encourage completion of FCCS course.
  • Must submit information necessary to complete a National Practitioner Data Base search and meet Legacy’s standards for results.
